It was as hot as the hottest summer, the air was dry and the atmosphere humid. The ceiling fan stood motionless, as I was, having spent its own usefulness probably eons ago.
The only air you can find was being sucked by the unseen but chugging noisy exhaust in the corner of the room. I guess that helps, taking some of the heat out.
I just wished it could also take the raging fire out of my belly.
I soon realized I was having lunch in the middle of nowhere. It was a cheap and dingy restaurant that reminded me of those small Chinese places I used to frequently go some previous lives ago. I was still a kid back then. I didn’t know anything outside my personal scope. I remember a few years back when a certain Ninoy was shot dead. Seeing him on TV moments before his death made me realize that this surreality is a signal of a wrong. Something tremendously wrong.
I wanted to look away. Away from her lovely gaze. Forget all the things she did and put it away, no matter how wonderful, no matter how magical.

When I came to Olongapo, I was very hopeful. I just had a daughter, her mom is a native Olongapena, and I decided to go there to start a new life.
