Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Don’t be…

I am back here in Los Angeles for a weekend trip to visit my mom, who unfortunately was in the hospital for stomach pains. Since I had no plans but to be with her, I will definitely be stuck at home contemplating nothing significant. That means I can have the time to fix up my sites and do some maintenance tweeks. Thou That Shalt Not Be Named

thou that shalt not be namedI was out for a few days. Been down with that “flu” again.

It was the last day of winter, can’t wait to get it over with and move forward to spring and say goodbye to that snow, that fog, that cold, those pestering mechanisms that seem to trigger my preternatural undefined and up-to-now weakness that I would aptly call thou that shalt not be named.

My anticipation to spring forward was cut short by that last frost bite so eager to make me not to forget that my first winter on the Pacific Northwest was literally and figuratively a chilling one. Continue Reading…

In Search of the Arab Trees

the arab treeAs usual, I was traveling alone, trying to discover the world with my very own eyes.

On one of my journeys, I passed by the combined desert lands of ancient Mesopotamia and Persia, the lands that brought the story of Genesis into life, the cradle of civilization, the land of the Pyramids and the Pharaohs, and the land of my father, Abraham.

I always wanted to go there. One clairvoyant Italian lady told me, years before, that I used to be an Arab prince on my previous life. Thought maybe I could live to be one in at least a couple of days.

But the truth is, I am in search of the mystical Arab trees…. Continue Reading…

A Lunar Love Affair

my moonI decided to leave work early. Being a night owl myself, I work graveyards. But today I can’t wait ’til seven in the morning.

I don’t feel sick. I just kinda feel like I was in a trance due to fatigue. My mind was like in auto mode. Everything I see looked like it was hazy and wrapped in cold water-carrying clouds.

My body was so stiffed I thought this must be how it feels when you get injected with formaldehyde. I guess if somebody asks me a question, my only reply would be, “say whaaat?”. Continue Reading…

The Undead

deadblackI came from the realms of the undead.

I am still conscious of my being, but just can’t seem to move, say anything nor do anything. I haven’t seen the brightness of day for quite sometime.

Personally displacing myself from the sunny south, I had come to a chilly state, a welcoming and albeit a refreshing change of environment.

But roaming the new city every night, night after night, took whatever strength I had left in my decaying corpse.

Each morning, just when I’m about to glimpse the very first ray of the mighty sun, I could feel my very own weakness. Such a pathetic vulnerability. It was my personal cue to head back to my conveniently unmarked desolate crypt in the northwest. Continue Reading…

The Curse of the Winter Mist

mistyLooking from the inside of my comfortable hotel room, I could sense the North American winter cold. I gazed at a few snowflakes stacked in the window pane and tried to imagine a million different kinds.

I couldn’t quite place where the west meets the east. Except perhaps that I do know that it is daytime, I couldn’t see where the sun was.

I decidedly went out the balcony to enjoy the skyline and lit a cigar. On the roof of the next building I saw a lone bird sitting on top of what looked like a mechanized chimney. I thought it was a bit funny because most birds do hang out together. I guess this one’s a loner.

Being a night owl myself, I hate the desert heat but I do welcome the winter cold. But not the winter freeze. So my coming here in Vancouver on perhaps the coldest time of the year was both a relief and a curse. Continue Reading…
