Lost in Space

As is the usual, I look through my self-made spyglass gazing through the intermittent hues of lights that flicker well past the distant skyline.

I wish I could get away from the disturbing glare of the cities and go back to my once-in-a-while isolation and self-imposed hibernation. Free from these bright pervasive city lights, away from the litter and graphical eyesores of industries, and beyond these annoying and invasive humming noises of humans quite so obsessed with technology.

Just so I could spend a whole night wondering like the philosophers of the old, munching not on numerical delicacies but of great discoveries, and unraveling  not the apathetic tasks of mediocrity but remarkable ideas that are amorous to the specie. Continue Reading…

Cognitive Dissonance on the End of Days

A massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake hits Japan March 11, 2011 and caused an unprecedented tsunami. Having a few family members currently living in Japan, I was carefully monitoring the events all night.

With an earthquake that powerful, I’m certain the tsunami that would follow would be huge, but I never realized it fully until I saw it. When I did see it online, it was unimaginable. I was shaking my head with its monstrosity. It was surreal.

In one footage I  saw a guy standing on top of a trailer truck, both his hands on his waist looking outwardly towards the oncoming giant wave carrying mixed debris of ships, houses, cars, and i think…  people. Continue Reading…

Homeless in Venice II

Being homeless at all is no feat. That’s why I was surprised why anyone would choose to go homeless when he has a home he could go to.

The streets are not safe and oftentimes mean. You could get mugged anytime, killed if you’re unlucky.

But Sarge, like some homeless veterans, has a more serious problem than  just being homeless. He is suffering from a post-war syndrome.

I don’t know exactly the technicalities and other issues about it, but a lot of them had that seemingly unreal perception on things. Continue Reading…

Homeless in Venice

Venice Beach, Los Angeles. Almost always it is a very calm, quiet and peaceful place. Contrary to the eclectic impressions a tourist might have during the day, the nights have a small-town feel to it.

On any given day you will find lots of characters along the speedway by the beach. Artists both new and old hand displaying their latest work and willing to do your portrait for a fee.

Street performers showing their talents for a chunk of change, well-tanned bodybuilders showing off their enormous muscles, surfer kids waiting for a swell, skater boys challenging each other for new moves, and some simply enjoying the shows and whatever the place has free to offer.

In Venice, everyday is a day on the beach. Continue Reading…

A Cycle of Personal Reunification

reunificationI awoke with the sounds of it.

The door was being rattled, and the knob was shaking violently. The panes are getting hammered it seems by swooshing cloaked hands.

I looked around to see where I was. From the window I could see the giant tree across my window swaying hard on its sides, like some unseen forces at play are pushing and pulling it apart, working to put its majestic charm on its knees.

The street lights are dancing in the middle of the road, suspended by a small chain of loose wires, all red lights flashing as if to warn me of an impending emergency. A few cars managed to stay away from flying debris. Continue Reading…

The Hump That Broke The Camel’s Back

the-camelIt was a desolate wasteland, a mix of hot sand and ragged dirt. There was no air except for the few occasional breezes that blow like hotter than summer.

From the broken cracks on the ground, you can see the scorching air rising up above it like debris trying to flee a burning magma. Even the smallest of flora have died from years of neglect from the heavens.

A lone camel came idling by. He is a dromedary, all the way from some mystic Arab lands. It had traveled the Great Plains, climbed past the edges of the everglades, and crossed the empty deserts. Continue Reading…
