During the term of Richard Gordon as mayor of Olongapo City, there were at least 26 cases of “salvagings” or summary executions that victimized at least 28 people.

The killings were believed to have been made to cleanse the city of undesirable elements and maintain its allure as the center for the R & R of US servicemen.

Olongapo officials dismissed such as “isolated incidents involving hardened criminals whose death were mainly due to gang rivalry”, it is a matter of public record that the victims were mostly teenagers and one was a woman.

According to records from the Olongapo City Fiscal’s Office, the following are among those who were executed during the incumbency of Mayor Richard Gordon:

  • Ernesto Manalang, several gunshot wounds, found March 8, 1980 at WB, Olongapo
  • Rodolfo Cervantes, gunshot wound on the right nape, found April 5, 1980 near Columban College, Olongapo
  • Rey Ocampo, found April 16, 1980 inside a well in Old Cabalan, Olongapo
  • Two unidentified persons, one with a gunshot wound on the right armpit; the other with a gunshot wound on the forehead, found May 11, 1980 near the cemetery in Olongapo
  • Walito Visdo, gunshot wound on the head, found Aug. 18, 1980 at Kalaklan, Olongapo
  • Antonio P. Sorio, stab wound near the head, found Aug. 16, 1980 at Old Cabalan, Olongapo
  • Two unidentified persons, found Sept. 23,1980
  • Unidentified person, gunshot wounds on his mouth and several incised wounds on his back, found Sept. 23, 1980 near Dam Site, Olongapo
  • Unidentified person, gunshot wound, with bullet hitting the neck and exiting through the forehead, found Nov. 20, 1980 at East Tapinac, Olongapo
  • Ernesto Santos, gunshot wounds on the head, breast and right arm, found Feb 23, 1981 at West Tapinac, Olongapo City
  • Unidentified person, three stab wounds in the heart, found March 14, 1981 at East Tapinac, Olongapo City
  • Norberto Guiang, several stab wounds on the body, found March 14, 1981 at East Tapinac, Olongapo
  • Reynaldo Angeles, two gushot wounds, one on the left side of the head, one on the chine, found May 30, 1981 at 21st Place, WBB, Olongapo City
  • Dominador Corum, gunshot wound, found July 9, 1981 at Kalaklan, Olongapo
  • Unidentified person, stab wounds near his heart, found July 20, 1981 at Kalaklan, Olongapo City
  • Edgardo Perigrino, two stab wounds on the chest, found July 21, 1981 at WBB, Olongapo
  • Juanito Pena, stab wounds al over the body, found Oct. 8, 1981 inside the jail, Olongapo City
  • Rolando Enrique, several stab wounds, found Dec. 19, 1981 at Sta. Rita
  • Susan Tiongson, one stab wound on the left breast, laceration on the left ear, found Jan. 4, 1982 near the cemetery
  • Unidentified person, contusions on the head, wounds on the wrist and legs, found Feb 8, 1982 at WBB, Olongapo City
  • Armando Capul, several wounds, found April 26, 1982 at WB, Olongapo
  • Wilfredo Santos, several wounds, found June 23, 1982 along Gordon Ave., Paga-Aasa Olongapo
  • Edgardo Nierva, gunshot wound on the head, found July 5, 1982 at Dam Site, Old Cabalan Olongapo City
  • Vicente Mingote, several stab wounds, found Oct. 30, 1982 at Gordon Heights, Olongapo
  • Gorgonio Legario, two stab wounds on the left chest, found Nov. 6, 1982 at Sta. Rita, Olongapo
  • Edgardo Cortez, several stab wounds, found Dec. 31, 1982, at WBB, Olongapo

The summary executions in Olongapo during the incumbency of then Mayor Richard Gordon were brought to the attention of then Minister of Defense Juan Ponce Enrile.

Now these are not insinuations, like one Gordon supporter out there might try to suggest, but mere raw data and facts available to the public. It came straight from the records of the City Fiscal Office in Olongapo City.

Like what it says, these are summary execution style of killings. And as case of summary execution goes, no suspects had been apprehended. Nobody here is blaming anybody. We could blame it on Marcos, the military, the police chief, it could be anybody. Hell, it could even be me, that’s if we go to the wishes of some propagandists out there.
